Bio-circular flooring can be produced from bio-based or bio-circular materials that are produced from natural raw materials without any change in appearance and properties. The product is exactly the same. Only the source of the starting material is different.
Because the chemical composition is the same, regular and bio-circular PVC are not kept separate in the production process. It is common practice to work with mass-balance principle, which means that in bookkeeping the fossil and virgin material is segregated, but in the production process it is mixed. The amount of bio-circular material required to produce the SQM of Elite b+ sold, will be purchased.
The same principle is used for renewable electricity. The same network is used to transport the power: you cannot tell whether the electricity is coming from gas, nuclear, solar or another source.

Avoid waste, save energy
Producing Sphera at 2 mm in one step, without back sanding, reduces waste by 10-15%. The little waste created gets safely recycled into our heterogeneous vinyl collections, through our internal recycling process on site.

Forbo Flooring Systems is actively o#ering installation waste take-back programs where the sustainability balance for logistics makes sense. We have several schemes for vinyl, including recycling of Sphera, in a growing number of European countries.
